Michael D. Dallen, 17, of Torrance, drowned in Oregon’s Rogue River when the raft he was riding overturned, spilling him and a companion into the fast-moving water. Dallen and David L. Fears, 17, also of Torrance, had been camping at the Natural Bridge campground. They were riding an inflatable raft downstream from the Union Creek campground when it overturned at the head of a small gorge near Natural Bridge, Jackson County sheriff’s deputies said. Fears was able to swim to shore and sought help. U.S. Forest Service rangers found Dallen’s body submerged in about six feet of water. Deputies said neither youth was wearing a life jacket.
