Grieving survivors in Edmonton, Canada, were permitted by police to return to homes they fled Friday when a tornado ravaged their neighborhood, killing 26 people and injuring nearly 300. Since the tornado struck a suburban mobile home park, crushing and tossing dozens of homes about like so many soft drink cans, more than 100 police had kept the area cordoned off to prevent looting and allow workers to clear debris. After touring the disaster area, Alberta Premier Don Getty pledged full government support for the victims.
