Three Slain at Alimony Hearing

PORT ST. JOE, Fla. — A man shot and killed a state circuit court judge, an attorney and a witness today at an alimony hearing in the aftermath of a divorce, authorities said.
Clyde Melvin also shot and wounded his ex-wife, Inez, then was wounded himself by a sheriff as he tried to escape across the roof of the county jail, State Atty. James Appleman said. Judge W. L. Bailey, Inez Melvin’s lawyer, Thomas B. Ingles, and Peggy White Paulk, a relative of Inez Melvin’s who was at the hearing as a witness, were slain in the blood bath.
