Unite took the lead with two furlongs remaining and pulled away for a three-length victory over Bourbon Girl in the $217,500-added Irish Oaks at Curragh, Ireland. The winner’s purse in the 1 1/2-mile race was $146,450.
The Irish-bred 3-year-old filly, ridden by Walter Swinburn, became only the sixth horse since the end of World War II to win both ends of the English-Irish filly double. She won the Epsom Oaks last month, beating Bourbon Girl by five lengths.
The last filly double was in 1981, when Swinburn’s father, also Walter Swinburn, rode Blue Wind to victory.
