Sacramento Needs OT as Strings Fall Again

Pam Casale won her women’s singles match and then teamed with Mary Lou Piatek to take the women’s doubles Saturday night as Sacramento defeated the Strings, 28-19, in a TeamTennis match before a crowd of 1,393 at the Forum.
After Casale won a tiebreaker, 5-3, to beat Lisa Bonder, 6-5, she joined Piatek to down Bonder and Ann White, 6-2, as Sacramento opened an 18-9 lead.
Larry Stefanki won the men’s singles from Eliot Teltscher, 6-4, to put the Capitals up, 25-13, but Teltscher and John Lloyd defeated Stefanki and Robert Van’t Hof, 6-3, in the men’s doubles to force overtime. Stefanki and Van’t Hof then won the first game for the Capitals (1-0) to end the match and give the Strings an 0-2 record.
Van’t Hof and Piatek defeated Lloyd and White, 6-2, in mixed doubles to open the match.
