2 Sewage Supervisors Accused

The city’s Board of Public Works moved today to seek criminal charges against two supervisors at the Hyperion Treatment Plant for allegedly failing to report three recent discharges of up to 18 million gallons of semi-treated raw sewage. The board acted after sanitation officials confirmed reports from an anonymous plant worker that the discharges, earlier this month and on May 25, were not reported as required by state law.
The public works board also voted to suspend the two workers with pay and ordered officials to determine whether others may have been involved in what board President Maureen A. Kindel said was an “outrageous and embarrassing” development.
