Thank you, ABC, for your courage in presenting “When the Time Comes.” Few issues are as fraught with pitfalls of hysteria as are terminal illness and one’s options in dealing with it. As the movie exquisitely dramatized, when the issue of terminal illness must be faced, the sufferer should have the right to decide what the quality of his or her death should be. Who among us would choose to spend the final days or years of his or her life in constant pain and/or as a tube-fed vegetable?
