A jury has convicted a Bakersfield man accused of assaulting a 78-year-old great-grandmother who thwarted the attack by spitting tobacco juice in his eyes. A Kern County Superior Court jury convicted Brian Hallock, 28, of assault with intent to commit rape, burglary and intimidating a witness. Hallock, who will be sentenced June 23, testified that he climbed through a rear window of the woman’s home, where his mother had worked for years, to show how a burglar might get in. When the woman became hysterical, Hallock said he suffered an epileptic seizure that she interpreted as an assault. The woman testified that it definitely was attempted rape because Hallock said he was going to rape her.
