Archeologists next week will launch the most detailed study yet of the Civil War ironclad Monitor, resting upside down in 220 feet of water 16 miles off Cape Hatteras, N.C., it was announced. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and Navy said their jointly sponsored $1.8-million expedition is scheduled to begin May 26 and run through June 9.
