Bell : Beauty Pageant Disclaimed

City Administrator Bryon Woosley has issued a disclaimer concerning an upcoming beauty pageant titled the “Li’l and Teen Miss Bell City Beauty Pageant.” The event is not connected with the annual City of Bell Beauty Pageant held each fall under the aegis of the city and the chamber of commerce, he said.
City Council members this week briefly discussed the advisability of seeking a court injunction against the new pageant’s sponsoring organization. Their concern was that the public, and sponsoring businesses, would be confused by the similarity of names.
Sgt. William Talbott of the Bell Police Department made an inquiry into the new pageant, which he said is being promoted by an organization called the Miss America Beauty Pageants headquartered in La Mirada. “As far as I can determine, there’s no (legal) problem” (with their use of the Bell name), Talbott said. Promoters of the event could not be reached for comment.
