The Southern Section announced its 1987 girls’ basketball playoff pairings Monday, bestowing a first-round gift upon Edison High School in the 4-A division.
Edison, Orange County’s No. 1-ranked team, is seeded fourth in the division’s playoff bracket. The Chargers (25-1) will play Mira Costa (6-13) in the first round at Edison.
First-round games for all divisions will take place Saturday with all games scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
Mira Costa is the only team in the 4-A division with a losing record. Consider that Lynwood (26-2), the No. 1 seed in the 4-A and the only team to beat Edison this season, plays Canyon (13-9) in the first round.
“I think it worked out OK,” said Dave White, Edison coach. “I can’t complain.”
In the 3-A division, three Orange County teams are seeded in the top four spots.
Brea-Olinda (20-4), which tied Valencia for the Orange League championship, is seeded second and plays Schurr (14-9).
Katella (23-2), Empire League champion, is seeded third but has a tough draw in Redlands (18-4).
Mission Viejo (23-2), South Coast League champion, is seeded fourth and plays South Torrance (11-11).
