Congressmen and health care groups said they will sue the government because too many Medicare claims for home health care are denied. Reps. Harley O. Staggers Jr. (D-W. Va.) Claude Pepper (D-Fla.) and Doug Walgren (D-Pa.) said unduly restrictive and arbitrary government rules for what Medicare will cover prevent homebound recipients from getting necessary nursing and other care. A Health Care Financing Administration spokesman said the number of home care claims denied by his agency has risen because of better data reporting, not a desire to hurt recipients.
