The Soviet Union has given East German leader Erich Honecker the go-ahead for an unprecedented visit to West Germany this year, the Hamburg-based newspaper Bild am Sonntag said. The paper said that Soviet Foreign Minister Eduard A. Shevardnadze gave approval for a visit to Bonn during Shevardnadze’s recent trip to East Berlin. It said the visit will probably come in the second half of this year. West German officials said only that a longstanding invitation to Honecker is still open.
