WINTER SPORTS HIGHLIGHTS : Chaminade Erupts for 52 Second-Half Points to Defeat Pater Noster

Despite Pater Noster High’s efforts to slow down the game’s tempo, Chaminade erupted for 52 points in the second half and scored a 72-32 Santa Fe League win Thursday at Cathedral.
Chaminade lead at halftime, 20-11, lead despite Pater Noster’s efforts to hold the ball. In the second half, Chaminade switched between a trapping defense and a man-to-man to force turnovers and turn the game into a rout.
Kevin Black scored 13 points, John Carolan had 12 and Jeff Denton added 11 for Chaminade (12-6, 8-1).
Black, who played only 19 minutes because of the lopsided score, had 10 rebounds and 5 blocked shots to go with his 13 points. Denton had 10 rebounds, and Steve Hurdle had five assists.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Harvard 67, St. Genevieve 53--Steve Green scored 24 points and Andy Bell added 15 for Harvard, which led at halftime, 28-24. Mike Lowe added 14 points. Mike Walker scored 20 points and had eight rebounds for St. Genevieve (7-10, 3-6).
Cathedral 72, Bell-Jeff 69--Icel Williams had 29 points and Javier Montenegro had 28 points for Cathedral (11-7, 7-2) in the Santa Fe league game. Sheamus Martin had 20 points and 12 rebounds for Bell-Jeff (10-8, 5-4).
Alhambra 62, Burbank 60--Lorne Corradi and Scott Mena finished with 17 points each for Alhambra (15-6, 3-3). For Burbank (13-7, 4-2), Mark Nielsen had 19, Chris Buck scored 14 and Bryan Chandler had 12.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Louisville 73, Bell-Jeff 40--Louisville (14-2, 6-0) remained in first place in the San Fernando Valley League despite playing without senior center Andrea Knapp, who missed the game because of chicken pox. Senior guard Lynn Flanagan led Louisville with 28 points, and Tina Kohler had 18.
Alemany 69, Chaminade 31--Jennifer Kroll scored 16 points and Jenny Beubis had 13 for Alemany (16-4, 6-1) in the San Fernando Valley League game. Lucy Braker led Chaminade with 13 points.
Notre Dame 40, St. Genevieve 30--Kristin Borella had 16 points and 12 rebounds, and Christy Parker had 9 points, 13 rebounds, 5 block shots and 3 steals for Notre Dame.
Burbank 49, Alhambra 41--Christy Calderon and Christine Rumfola each had 18 points for Burbank (12-5, 5-1).
Oak Park 45, St. Bonaventure 27--Paula Fraley had 24 points and 22 rebounds, and Sharon Carson scored 12 points for Oak Park (11-5, 7-3) in the Tri-Valley League game.
Maranatha 41, Montclair Prep 33--Pam Hanssen had 11 points and 16 rebounds, and Charis Kubrin had 12 points for Montclair Prep (5-10, 2-8). Kelli Nosse scored 19 points for Maranatha (8-2 in Alpha League).
Campbell Hall 65, Providence 26--Maria Alba Erra scored 16 points and Tracy Sylvester had 12 to lead Campbell Hall (9-3, 5-1) to a Delphic League victory.
L.A. Baptist 55, Western Christian 22--Dawn Broline scored 23 points for L.A. Baptist (15-3, 9-1) in the Alpha League game.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
Santa Barbara 83, College of Canyons 71--Reynold Baly had 20 points and Jim McCoy had 18 as Santa Barbara (16-7, 5-2) posted a Western State Athletic Conference win at Santa Barbara. Sophomore center Mitch McMullin led Canyons (13-12, 2-5) with 27 points, 8 rebounds and 10 blocked shots.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Moorpark 90, Bakersfield 81--Karina Hardman scored 24 points and Debra Rabin had 20.
