General Telephone’s two-year-old subsidiary, GTEL, said the acquisition, which provides Bay Area Teleguide, the nation’s largest public-access videotex system, will expand its coverage soon to Los Angeles. Teleguide presently includes 263 public terminals at more than 100 locations, including airports, Bay Area Rapid Transit stations and major shopping centers and office buildings. It offers free information on Bay Area events, local restaurants, shopping and financial services, paid for by the companies. Terms of the acquisition were not disclosed.
