Four occupants of a Linda Vista dwelling were injured in a New Year’s morning fire that was caused by a smoldering cigarette, authorities said.
All four victims were treated at UC San Diego Medical Center and released, authorities said.
The blaze, which occurred in a single-story duplex in the 1900 block of Abbe Street, was reported at 5:53 a.m., according to the San Diego Fire Department. Firefighters found smoke and flames coming from the dwelling.
Ronald Wentworth, David Wentworth, Sharon Backer and a 3-year-old boy suffered from smoke inhalation and lacerations, authorities said. They were treated at the hospital and released.
The fire was caused by a dropped or discarded cigarette left in the living room couch, fire officials said. Damage was estimated at $20,000.
