A group of 287 Polish tourists who visited West Germany for Christmas did not return home, West German border police reported. A spokesman at Flensburg police headquarters said the 287 were in a group of about 600 Poles who visited the Baltic port of Luebeck in three Polish cruise ships. The 287 stayed behind when the ships left for home last weekend, the spokesman said. It is not known how many planned to ask for asylum. About 1,000 Polish tourists have jumped ship in West Germany this year, and scores have defected from Polish tourist buses.
