In the San Diego Mesa Tournament:

Orange Coast College 70, San Diego Mesa 59--Chuck McGavern, a sophomore guard, led the Pirates (15-3) with 15 points for the semifinal victory. Reid Lukes made 6 free throws in last 3 1/2 minutes for Orange Coast.

In a women’s game:

Golden West 85, Tacoma Washington 59--The Rustlers (16-0) broke open at 34-34 halftime tie in the second-round game in the College of the Desert Tournament. April Marion scored 24 points to lead the Rustlers. Jeannine Battaglia had 18 points for the Rustlers. Terry Rock had 18 for Tacoma Washington (11-3). Golden West will play College of the Desert for the championship at 2:45 p.m. today.
