“Swan Lake.” Warner. $39.98. Free of the psychosexual excesses of his later versions, Rudolf Nureyev’s 1964 production for the Vienna State Opera Ballet (filmed in 1967) nonetheless contains many bizarre narrative, musical, scenic and choreographic distortions. The leads, of course, are Nureyev himself (sporting Donna Mills-style eye makeup in his big, big close-ups) and Margot Fonteyn (mostly photographed from far, far away). In isolated passages the film confirms their greatness, but their fabled rapport is evident only in the relatively traditional Act II adagio. A sad botch of a classic, but intermittently fascinating.
