CARLSBAD — A 22-year-old woman died Saturday when the bicycle she was riding was struck by a pickup truck on Carlsbad Boulevard.
Police said Deidre Inacio, 22, and a companion, Colette Ewing, both of Carlsbad, were northbound in the bike lane near Poinsettia Lane when a pickup driven by Albert Kapitanski, 24, of Vista, apparently drifted into the lane and struck Inacio.
The victim was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital in Encinitas, where she died about 45 minutes after the accident. Ewing was not involved in the accident.
Police said an investigation is under way to determine whether Kapitanski will be charged. Officers said that it was raining lightly at the time of the accident but that the accident did not appear to be storm-related.
