Orange County Soccer Roundup : Rosen Leads Irvine to 2-1 Win

Irvine High School’s boys’ soccer team beat Estancia, 2-1, in a quarterfinal match Wednesday in the Irvine Tournament. Kevin Rosen scored both goals in the first half. Irvine (5-0) plays Foothill Friday in a semifinal match.
Foothill qualified for the semifinals Wednesday despite not winning its match. The Knights (3-0-1) tied Dana Hills, 1-1, but advanced in the tournament on penalty kicks, 4-3. Kent Johnson scored for Foothill, Gabe Smith for Dana Hills (3-0-1). Foothill goalie Chris Lema had 16 saves. The match counts as a tie for both teams.
In other tournament matches:
Sunny Hills 1, Valencia 0-- Steve Fichtelberg scored the game’s only goal. Sunny Hills is 2-0, Valencia 2-3.
Villa Park 4, Newport Harbor 1--Rick Coplan and Aaron Hisman each had two goals for Villa park (3-0), which advances to the semifinals against Laguna Hills. Marcus Mindte scored for Newport Harbor.
In a nonleague match:
Bosco Tech 2, Marina 1--Rick Doeve scored both goals for Bosco Tech (4-0). Ben Lefrancois scored for Marina (1-1-1).
In girls’ nonleague soccer:
Fullerton 1, Western 0--Mariellen Lindsay scored for Fullerton (3-1).
