Watergate burglar Frank Sturgis went on trial in Miami on charges of receiving stolen property as partial payment for an alleged promise to an undercover policeman to help get a prisoner an early release from jail. Sturgis, 62, and Emilio Cotonat, 47, were arrested June 18 after Sturgis allegedly promised the early release in exchange for several stolen watches worth $75,000. Sturgis’ lawyer says Sturgis was arrested in an attempt to force him to testify in another case. He is free on bond.
