Paris Restoration

I enjoyed the article regarding hotel restorations by Peter S. Greenberg on Sept. 21. I was sorry he failed to mention the marvelous restoration being done at the Hotel Meurice Inter-Continental, 228 Rue de Rivoli, 75401 Paris. I was there this summer and couldn’t help but marvel at how this hotel is being transformed back to its original splendor. Its marble floors and halls replete with chandeliers and furnishings fit for a palace speak of a bygone era of elegance.
I took a suite for three wonderful days, entering down a 30-foot hall with high windows, blue draperies and mirrors. The gracious living room with 10-foot windows opened to a balcony overlooking the Tuileries Gardens, offering a panorama to the left of the Louvre, to the right the Champs-Elysees and Arc de Triomphe. With a separate dressing room, large bedroom with balcony and double marble bathroom, two TV sets complemented with a flask of chilled Champagne resting in a silver ice bucket, it was worth every penny the hotel charged.
