Rio Mesa 7, Hueneme 0--Running back Geoff Freedman ran off left guard for a 16-yard touchdown with 5:04 remaining in the second quarter to give Rio Mesa a narrow victory over Hueneme in a Channel League game at Hueneme.
Hueneme (1-7, 1-4 in league) was driving with 3:10 remaining in the game and had the ball on the Rio Mesa 23 when defensive back Jonathan Severn intercepted quarterback Joel Gaxiola in the end zone.
Rio Mesa (4-4, 2-3) had trouble putting its offensive attack together with the exception of Freedman, who gained 71 yards on seven carries, and running back Bale Kawai, who rushed for 53 yards on 10 attempts.
