Huntington Beach : Woman Run Over, Killed After Falling From Car
- Share via
A woman riding in a car along the San Diego Freeway fell onto the pavement Friday night and was killed when one or more cars ran over her.
The coroner’s office identified the victim as Lucy Marie Gandara, 39, of Montebello. A police spokesman said she apparently jumped from a sports car, but the coroner’s office had not yet classified the death as accident or suicide.
The driver of the car was identified by the California Highway Patrol as Robert John Wheaton, 36, of Montebello. Huntington Beach police said Wheaton was arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.
Police said that none of the cars believed to have struck the woman stopped at the scene. Officers said they were seeking those drivers--who may not have been aware that they had struck a person--and witnesses to the incident, which occurred in the northbound freeway lanes north of Magnolia Street at about 11:45 p.m.
