TUNIS, Tunisia — The last officially recognized opposition party has joined a boycott of Tunisia’s general elections Sunday.
The small Popular Unity Party (PUP) announced Thursday night that it is boycotting the poll to protest alleged arbitrary disqualification of its candidates and arrests of supporters.
The announcement leaves only a handful of independents opposing President Habib Bourguiba’s Destourian Socialist Party. At stake are 125 National Assembly seats.
