An 11-month investigation has resulted in the arrest of two people suspected of being involved in “major narcotics trafficking,” said a Sheriff’s Department spokesman.
Joseph Arvin Ortiz, 36, and Virginia Lopez, 26, were being held in County Jail in lieu of $25,000 bail each on charges of possession of narcotics for sale.
The two were arrested without incident about 7 p.m. Thursday after police and Sheriff’s Department investigators served a search warrant at a home at 7902 Santa Catalina Ave., a “well-fortified house with wrought iron, barbed wire and sound devices,” said Sheriff’s Lt. Robert Rivas.
Three handguns, one sawed-off shotgun and $1,200 in cash were confiscated. Investigators also found 80 balloons of heroin, 8 grams of tar heroin, small amounts of cocaine and amphetamines, and narcotics paraphernalia, Rivas said.
About 25 police officers and deputies went to the house, Rivas said.
