Dataproducts Reports Profit of $2.7-Million

Dataproducts, benefiting from cost cutting and increased sales, earned $2.7 million, or 13 cents a share, in its second quarter ended Sept. 27. In the same quarter a year earlier, it lost $13.8 million, or 67 cents a share.
The Woodland Hills-based computer printer maker said its revenue increased 5.8%, to $84.5 million, despite what it called sluggish market conditions. The company’s backlog of orders on Sept. 27 was $110 million, unchanged from three months earlier.
For the six months ended Sept. 27, Dataproducts earned $5.2 million, or 25 cents a share, a reversal from a loss of $33.3 million, or $1.60 a share, a year earlier. Revenue increased 1.7%, to $169.0 million.
