BOSTON — Nobel laureate Elie Wiesel said today that he will leave for the Soviet Union on Tuesday, a week after winning the Peace Prize, to try to persuade Soviet leader Mikhail S. Gorbachev to let Jews and dissidents leave the country.

He said that his weeklong trip to Moscow was planned before he learned he had won the Nobel and that he has asked for a meeting with Gorbachev but does not know whether it will be granted.
