The United States, which has not won the Davis Cup for four years, drew Paraguay as its first-round opponent in pairings for the 1987 men’s tennis competition. All first-round matches in the 1987 World Group will be played March 13-15.
A victory in Paraguay would give the United States the home advantage for the second round and semifinals, regardless of the opposition.
The final is set for Dec. 18-20.
If the United States beats Paraguay, West Germany probably will be the second-round opponent. West Germany will open against Spain.
