Mechanical Problems Put Vermont A-Plant Off Line

VERNON, Vt. — After three months of uninterrupted operation, the Vermont Yankee nuclear reactor was taken off line Saturday because of mechanical problems, plant officials said. They said the problems posed no threat to public safety.
