LENINGRAD, Soviet Union — Challenger Anatoly Karpov called his final timeout today in the World Chess championship, postponing his 20th game with titlist Gary Kasparov until Monday.
Use of Karpov’s last timeout in the 24-game contest means the final five games of the series must be played without a break, since Kasparov has already used his three timeouts. Karpov, in a spectacular comeback, evened the score 9.5-9.5 .
