Confirmation of Rehnquist
The hypocrisy of President Reagan and the Senate embracing the Statue of Liberty on the Fourth of July, and then confirming the likes of a William H. Rehnquist as chief justice of the United States in September is a national if not an international embarrassment.
More pathetic than Rehnquist’s refusal to acknowledge his actions in the past is the truly frightening fact that there seems nothing that could have altered the blind partisan tide of “loyalty” that led to his approval.
