Cedrick Hardman, former All-Pro defensive end, has been suspended from his job as football coach at Laguna Beach High School and will enter a program for drug rehabilitation, according to his attorney, Ronald Kreber. Hardman was arrested early Saturday morning on suspicion of cocaine possession. He also was charged with resisting arrest.
Hardman, 37, who played for 12 years with the San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders, was arrested when Laguna Beach police stopped him for speeding and found almost five grams of cocaine in the car, Deputy Police Chief Jim Spreine said. Police used chemical spray in arresting Hardman when he allegedly scuffled with arresting officers.
Dennis Smith, Laguna Beach school superintendent, said that Hardman will remain on unpaid suspension until his arraignment Oct. 10. Hardman joined the high school staff as an assistant coach in 1984 and was named head coach at the start of last season.
