The Los Angeles City Council on Wednesday voted to seek $345,000 in state bond funds to upgrade the Orcas picnic grounds in the northeast San Fernando Valley’s Hansen Dam Recreation Area.
The project was included in an application to the state Parks and Recreation Department seeking $6.1 million for projects citywide from the voter-approved California Park and Recreational Facilities Bond Act of 1984.
A report to the council from its grants committee said the Orcas picnic area has “seriously deteriorated through more than three decades of use.” The city proposes to use the $345,000 on landscaping and picnic facilities, and to improve the parking in the picnic grounds.
