ERIC ROHMER FILM WINS GOLDEN LION

VENICE, Italy — “Summer,” a film by French director Eric Rohmer about a young woman’s isolation, Wednesday won the Golden Lion prize at the film festival here. “Summer” (a review of the film is on Page 2) also won a separate award from the International Catholic Film Organization.

An Italian and a Soviet entry tied for second place. Italian director Francesco Maselli was honored for “Storia d’Amore” (“Love Story”) and Soviet director Sergei Soloviev won for “Chushaja, Helaja i Rjatoj” (“The Wild Pigeon”), the story of a boy whose pet pigeon is stolen.

The best actor award went to Carlo della Piane, a young Italian in Pupi Avati’s “Regale di Natale” (“Christmas Present”). Valeria Golino, an Italian actress in “Storia d’Amore,” was judged best actress.

Argentine Carlos Sorin was honored for the best first work. He directed “Pelicula del Rey,” (“The Film of the King”), the story of a group of film makers making a movie about a French explorer in Argentina.
