Mario Andretti beat out Danny Sullivan to win his 55th career pole position in qualifying for today’s Escort Radar Warning 200 Indy-car race at Lexington, Ohio.
Andretti, driving a Cosworth-powered Lola, ran a lap at an average speed of 113.331 m.p.h. Sullivan, driving a March-Cosworth, actually moved ahead of Andretti during the 30-minute qualifying session, turning a fast lap of 113.262, just .046 of a second slower than the pole-winning lap.
