San Jose Starts Slowly, but Warms Up in Time to Defeat Ventura County, 8-4

The San Jose Bees, held to two hits and no runs in the first four innings, exploded for five runs and five hits in the top of the fifth inning Thursday and went on to defeat the Ventura County Gulls, 8-4, in a California League game at Ventura College.
The Bees got all their runs in the fifth against Mark Dickman, who gave up seven hits in his 4 innings of work. Mike Hogan replaced Dickman (7-7) in the fifth and went 3 innings, allowing three runs and five hits.
Right fielder Bobby Clark went 2 for 5 with a home run and three runs batted in for the Bees. Shortstop Ed Jurak also had a home run and two RBIs.
Brian Kubala (9-5) earned the victory for San Jose, pitching five innings and allowing six hits and two earned runs. Yoshi Nakashima worked the final four innings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, for his second save.
Darryl Landrum was 3 for 3 for the Gulls, including two doubles and an RBI.
