Four Valley-area high school football players are listed as seniors to watch in the 1986 Street and Smith’s magazine football yearbook.

Jimmy Bonds, a quarterback from Hart High, Ron Simmons, an offensive lineman from Kennedy, Crespi linebacker Sean Howard and Harvard kicker Dominic Sandifer are listed along with 36 other California players.

Four players from California are listed among 50 preseason high school All-Americans. The Californians are: Tommy Booker, a running back from Vista High; Marvin Pollard, a free safety from Banning; Leonard Russell, a defensive tackle from Long Beach Poly, and Scott Spaulding, a fullback from El Toro.

Street and Smith’s chooses the high school seniors after conducting a national survey of coaches, scouts and sportswriters.

Evans Signs Contract With Baltimore Orioles

The Ventura County Royals were eliminated from the National Baseball Congress World Series in Wichita, Kan., last week, but Royals pitcher Scott Evans left the tournament a winner.

Evans, a former Thousand Oaks High and Oxnard College pitcher who had played for Gonzaga University, signed a professional contract Sunday with the Baltimore Orioles. Evans, 21, had not been drafted out of Gonzaga.

Evans, a 6-2, 185-pound right-hander, was assigned to the Bluefield, W. Va., Bluebells, the Orioles’ Rookie League affiliate in the Appalachian League.

Oriole scouts discovered Evans at the NBC World Series after he had pitched a five-hitter and had his fastball clocked at more than 90 m.p.h.
