I’m very upset about the recent Columbia Pictures Television announcement to make “The New Monkees.” Why on earth would anyone want to cheapen the originals by advertising for four new members, use the original name and put them on NBC (the network which ran the original series back in the late ‘60s)? Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but in this instance I think it is nothing more than a tasteless moneymaking scheme. Granted, the producers are in the business to make a buck, but I fail to see how they’ll do it if all the fans feel as I do. I will not tune in the new show and will not patronize its sponsors.
