Savings League Reports Average Account $7,407

What’s your bottom line on savings?
The United States League of Savings Institutions reports that the average savings account in the nation’s savings & loan associations in 1985 contained a record $7,407.
That represents an increase of $399 over the $7,008 reported in 1984.
The league’s newly published annual Sourcebook, a reference booklet on savings and home finance, notes that the average interest paid to account holders was 9.03% last year, and savers received a record $73.6 billion in interest payments from savings banks and S&Ls; during 1985.
