High levels of bacteria in the ocean are prompting health officials to post signs warning of possible contamination near three more storm drains that empty into Santa Monica Bay. The Los Angeles County Department of Health Services last week posted warnings for swimmers to stay out of the water near five other storm drains in the area. The source of the coliform bacteria has not been determined. The officials said that the posting was a precautionary measure and that no illnesses are believed to have resulted from the bacteria.
