The World : Heavy Flooding Hits China

Massive flooding caused by storms that hit China’s Jilin province 12 times during the months of June and July has affected 1.86 million people and inundated 2.5 million acres of farmland, the official News China News Agency reported. The agency’s report provided no details on deaths or injuries in the northeastern province but said rescue teams were sent to the province. It added that 165 miles of dikes have been breached and that 80,000 homes suffered damage. Last year in Jilin, at least 50 people died and more than 2.7 million homes were damaged in flooding that began in July.
