Monterey Park : Hike in Trash Fee Approved

The City Council has approved a 10% increase in trash collection rates, raising the monthly fee for homeowners to $6.38.
The increase was requested by Athens Disposal Co., the city’s refuse contractor, based on higher costs of insurance and landfill disposal, only partially offset by lower fuel prices. The city staff reported that the new rate is below that charged in most neighboring cities.
