The county registrar-recorder’s office is verifying signatures on petitions to repeal the city utility tax to determine if the city must place the measure on the Nov. 4 ballot. City Clerk Dorothy Outwater said the city received petitions with 4,305 signatures from All We Can Afford, the group that organized the effort to remove the 5% tax on electric, gas, water, telephone and cable television bills. Outwater said the measure will qualify for the ballot if 3,479 of the signatures are valid. She said the registrar-recorder’s office will complete its verification by Aug. 4.
