Israeli Hospital Strike Backs Nurses’ Walkout

TEL AVIV — Israeli hospital administrative and service personnel began a 24-hour strike Sunday, further crippling health services already suffering from a two-week-old walkout by nurses.
The Israeli Cabinet rejected a proposal to break the nurses’ strike by sending army medics to work in the hospitals.
An estimated 11,000 nurses walked off the job two weeks ago to back demands for higher pay and a new union. The government refused to negotiate, saying such talks would spark demands from other work sectors for higher pay and lead to the collapse of the government’s wage-control program.
