A District of Columbia police officer who was a boyhood friend of University of Maryland basketball star Len Bias is being investigated for his conduct immediately following Bias’ death, it was reported in Washington.
District police spokesman Lt. William White declined to comment on the investigation except to say it concerns “the Len Bias situation and whether or not Officer Johnnie Walker may have been involved in any type of misconduct.”
Walker was present at Leland Memorial Hospital in Riverdale the morning Bias died of cocaine-induced cardiac arrest June 19, his lawyer, Robert Matty, was quoted as saying in the Baltimore Sun.
The 26-year-old officer also was asked by the Bias family to go to their son’s dormitory room after his death and collect some of Bias’ items, he said.
