A body that washed ashore Saturday along the Colorado River at Blythe has been identified as that of Eric Gregory Owen, 19, of San Juan Capistrano, son of prominent south county developer Gus Owen, according to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
On June 21, Eric Owen, a student at Saddleback College, was swimming in the river at Parker, Ariz., when he was pulled into turbulence and disappeared near Headgate Dam.
He had accompanied his sister and other new graduates of Dana Hills High School on the outing. A friend who was swimming with him was rescued.
Owen’s body was discovered seven days later 40 miles downstream.
