Officials Seek Review of Santa Monica Policy on Funding Schools

Santa Monica Mayor Christine E. Reed and Councilman William H. Jennings will ask the City Council to reconsider its policy against providing financial assistance to public schools when the council meets on Tuesday.
Reed said the council may be able to give “a couple of hundred thousand dollars” to the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District, which is projecting a shortfall.
If the council approves the idea in principle, Reed said she will ask the city staff to determine how the money could be provided.
