TEHRAN — Thousands more Iranians, including a unit of dentists, left Sunday for the Persian Gulf War front to join the fighting against Iraq.
The Ettelaat newspaper said that 400 dentists left from the Health Ministry while Iranian television showed thousands of other volunteers leaving for the front.
Reports by the media said that volunteers departed for the front from at least 17 provincial centers over the weekend, as part of a mass mobilization ordered three weeks ago by Iran’s supreme leader, the Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, that has produced tens of thousands of fresh troops.
